Who is Nicole?

Nicole is the first generation to be born in America from her Jamaican mother, who also gave birth to triplets after giving birth to her and her twin sister. Since the age of 12, she has been committed to maintaining a creative practice and submitted art to be considered for state competitions in school in New Jersey. She joined the military at the age of 19 for financial reasons.

 

She served ten honorable years in the United States Marine Corps. She was deployed to Afghanistan, traveled worldwide, and moved several times during those years. She was married twice and had two beautiful children. After finishing her contract with the military, we moved to DC for a position at the Pentagon as a cyber security manager for the Marine Corps. After one year of that work, she returned to school to pursue her passion.

 

She attended Northern Virginia Community College and earned my associate degree in fine arts. In 2021, she won first place and the People's Choice award in the Juried Alexandria Fine Arts Student Exhibition. I also had the opportunity to have one of my paintings with my other classmates in the "Freedom House" and an additional painting at the art director's request. 

 

Enrolled at Maryland Institute College of Art in the General Fine Arts program (MICA), Nicole is on a journey to receive her BFA in 2025. Her current studio explorations delve into the complexities of life, offering a unique perspective on the world. Her work reflects her experiences, including her relationship with food, body image, and the military. Nicole's ultimate goal is to create a haven through her art, where hardships can be expressed with humor.
